Festival of Industry: Designing Enfield's Dynamic Visual Identity, Celebrating Heritage, Arts, and Community Diversity

The Festival of Industry programme celebrates Enfield's industrial heritage while exploring its future industrial identity through a diverse range of artistic expressions, encompassing visual arts, performances, workshops, and discussions.

In collaboration with Studio Breve, we undertook the task of designing a logo and visual identity for the festival. Our objective was to strike a harmonious balance between Enfield's industrial legacy and its vibrant arts, culture, and diverse community. This vision is reflected in the logo, where a bold, condensed typeface symbolises Enfield's industrial heritage, while playful accents discreetly spell out "Enfield," embodying the artistic spirit and cultural diversity.

During the development stage, the festival's events were still in the process of definition, presenting us with a unique challenge - there was no existing image bank to draw upon for design inspiration. Consequently, we created stylised images of objects from Enfield's industrial past to serve as graphic elements throughout our designs. To complement these objects, we drew inspiration from the diverse patterns found in Enfield, crafting a series of isometric graphic elements that can be used to represent different event types or as lively, colorful patterns.

Our visually engaging and dynamic brand palette effectively captures the spirit of celebration. Vibrant colours symbolise the rich cultural diversity of Enfield's community, while an extensive range of hues reflects the diverse cultural influences that have shaped the Borough. This highlights the inclusive and multicultural nature of Enfield.

Regarding event typography, we selected Beatrice Display for headings - a contemporary font distinguished by a memorable quirk in letter thickness. For body copy, we opted for DM Sans, a clean sans-serif font that balances the headings. For captions, we chose DM Mono, a monospaced font that emphasises Enfield's connection to the manufacturing, engineering, or technological sectors.

Once the visual identity was established, we proceeded to create an array of assets, including various print and digital collateral, dynamic animations, engaging social media posts, and a comprehensive marketing package replete with tools and application guidelines.
